Want to know what's happening with 50 Acre? Here's the lowdown...
Some of the stone that's been dropped round the wood by contractors.
Work in 50 Acre has finished for the time being, although there is a small further amount of logging scheduled for later this month. The top half of the trail is clear. However the bottom half is still blocked by branches and some fallen trees, including some pretty big ones.
The end of the rocky switchbacks section, which is currently buried under branches This map shows the areas which are clear (in green), and which ones are impassable, unless you're a gibbon who does cyclocross (in red):
The plan is to go in once the logging has finished and clear off the bottom half of the trail, then use the stone that has been distributed around the wood to sort out any sections that were damaged during the felling, or are generally in need of repair. There are a number of things to be sorted out before we can do this, not least of which is renewing our insurance. UPDATE: I've just had an email from Paul at The Cycle Hub, who had a nasty off after attempting to follow a track through the lower half of the wood that looked like a diversion of some kind. Just to be clear, with the exception of the yellow "family" trail there aren't any official diversions thorough that part of the wood. You have to come out at Weir Lane. |
