Ashton Court Christmas Clean-up |
|
This Sunday we're having our first dig day on the new Ashton Court trail. Don't worry, it's not falling apart. The aim of the day is to take a bit of pre-emptive action in places where people are straying from the line into the mud, smarten things up and build a few new features.

As usual, tools and materials will be supplied, although if you can bring a spade or a stiff broom (really!) then please do. As a special Xmas bonus we'll also have mince pies and mulled wine. Nice.
We'll be out from 10.00 am until about 3.00 pm. If you can't face the thought of getting there on the dot, you're welcome to join us later. Give me a ring on 0771 2650857 if you need directions. We'll be working in a number of locations across the estate, including the edge of the SORCY field and the Quarry Trails.
Parking on the estate is seriously squeezed due to the building work going on at the Golf Kiosk. If you can, please ride there. If you need car parking, one of the gates on Longwood Lane will be open and you'll be able to park inside the estate. Please note that Longwood Lane itself has no parking and people have almost been given tickets on previous trail days, so don't risk it!

50 Acre Trail Day, Saturday 14 May |
|
The next trail day in 50 Acre is going to be Saturday 14 May. Although the mud seems to be a thing of the past right now, winter has left its mark on a lot of the trail and it needs some attention to get it riding sweetly again.

On Saturday 23 April we're heading up the M4 to check out what our fellow trail builders have been up to in Swindon. It's an open day on the Croft MTB trail and the plan is to meet up with them for a few laps and a bit of a chat about their experiences.
This is hopefully going to be the first in a series of away rides to other volunteer-built trails to exchange ideas and get inspiration. Swindon isn't exactly synonymous with great off-road riding, but the local trail building group, MB Swindon, are laying the foundations for a thriving local scene, thanks to their work on the trail and their regular programme of events and rides.

This weekend is the second edition of Mudstock, the Mud Dock Cycleworks' annual festival of bikes. The weekend features talks, workshops, rides, bike demos, and live coverage of the Paris-Roubaix road race (the one with all the cobbles). All events are free and there'll also be a special prices at the cafe.
Bristol Trails Group will be giving a talk at 11.00 a.m. on Saturday 9 April, with the theme "Building mountain bike trails for fun and no profit". The talk will feature a look back at the first 5 years of volunteer trail building in Bristol, as well as some speculation about what the new trails will mean for the local riding scene.

Join us on Saturday 26 March for a final blast round the old trails and a chance to meet up with everyone who kept the trails running sweetly over the past 7 years.

50 Acre Wood Trail Day, Saturday 5 March |
|

After a few months of cowering indoors, it's time to head out and undo some of the carnage caused by winter on the trail in 50 Acre Wood.
|
|

It's time for another of our sporadic meetings to discuss what's happening with Bristol's local trails. Come to the Scotchman And His Pack pub on St Michael's Hill on Monday 28 February at 7.00 pm to have your say.

The next trail day in 50 Acre Wood is scheduled for Saturday 27th November. Meet at the Squeeze Stile at the bottom of the rocky bridleway at 10.00 am, or ring my mobile on 0771 265 0857 if you want to join us later. We'll be out until about 4.00.
